Hydropower training

Entura’s connection to an operating utility means we deliver practical courses focussed on key issues faced by organisations in the hydropower industry.

Our experience in many different regions allows us to bring further real-world experience to course design and delivery to ensure relevance.

Hydropower professional development courses can be tailored to the level of expertise and position in the business of participants, including operational technicians, engineers and management. Hydro power operator courses can be accredited against Australian qualification standards. Find out more about our accredited courses.

Hydropower systems (4 days)

Designed for hydropower professionals and managers involved in the design, operation and management of hydro power assets, this course explores the systems from water to wire, water conveyancing, machine turbine, to the high voltage electrical transmission.

The aim of the course is to educate the participants in the theoretical and practical aspects of hydropower systems and hydropower operation and maintenance. The course duration is four days, with a mix of technical and managerial level content, and is designed as an overview for managers new to hydropower or new to operations.

Hydropower development (4 – 5 days)

Designed for professionals involved in nontechnical aspects of the hydropower industry (typically from government, funding agencies, financial institutions, or NGOs), this course explores the full project development cycle from site identification to operations.

The aim of the course is to give participants an understanding of the key development risks and issues associated with hydropower development so as to build capability for project oversight, investment, due diligence, approval assessment, licensing and other non-technical hydropower development roles. The course duration is four to five days with a mix of classroom training sessions and site visits to relevant hydropower projects.

Small hydropower (3 – 4  days)

Designed for hydropower professionals and managers involved in, or exploring the potential of, small hydropower development and operation, this course covers a technical engineering overview of small hydro systems design, installation and maintenance requirements.

The aim of the course is to provide participants with an understanding of the technical elements and the risks and issues specific to small-scale hydropower development. The course duration is three to four days, with a mix of classroom training sessions and site visits to relevant hydro power projects.

Hydro vibration integrated analyses

The hydro vibration integrated approach and methodology (INTVibrATM) has been formulated based on significant practical experience and intellectual investment, making this course highly valuable for hydropower engineers and unlocking many misunderstandings relating to hydro vibration.

This inspirational hydro vibration analyses training is proven in practice and recognised and awarded nationally and internationally. It’s based on the best technical paper at HPPEE 2014, Hobart, Australia, and 1st place technical paper at Hydro Vision International Conference 2015.
