Our team supports our own fleet of hydro and gas machines throughout Tasmania, Australia, as well as many other generators and developers across the Asia-pacific region and Africa through new connections, upgrades and operational requirements (e.g. determining frequency and voltage control ancillary service capability), testing for Generator Performance Standard (GPS) compliance or providing machine model identification and validation (R2).

Our specialists are adept at determining cost-effective and appropriate methods of testing and modelling and maintain strong working relationships and a good reputation with network companies and regulators that help streamline acceptance processes.

Skilled on a suite of industry-standard software including PSSe, DigSilent PowerFactory, SinCal, PSCAD, Matlab, MudPack and EMTP-RV, our team is able to use the right tool for your work and repackage that data into other formats as required.

Connection studies

However big your generator is, at some point you will need to connect to a network.  As part of Hydro Tasmania, we understand the needs of generators, but we also know how network and system operators think.  We tailor our connection studies to address the key risks to your business based on plant performance, aiming to minimise or eliminate network constraints on your production.

We have provided connection advice for loads or generators of a 1-2 MW mini-hydro scheme through to large-scale gas turbines and most sizes in between.  With our intimate knowledge of both machine controls and power systems, we can help you with an efficient investigation of the risks you face through the connection, a considered mitigation of those risks, and someone to represent your interests and your plant capabilities in any negotiated access.

Onsite testing and modelling

Performance testing of generating units can give you the asset knowledge that allows you to take advantage of market opportunities and take control of code and rules compliance management.

Our experienced team of technicians and engineers can design a test procedure and then carry out onsite testing and performance validation of all generating unit types (hydro, wind, thermal, gas or solar).
